Connecticut
Convention Center
You
can't see it but it's there! The recently completed Connecticut
Convention Center selected K-13 Black for the massive exhibit
hall ceilings. Applied at 1" on fluted metal deck, the
K-13 provides an unequaled .90 Noise Reduction Coefficient.
The application controls reverberation along with providing
the blackout of the ceiling that was desired. The new Marriott
Hotel in the background also received K-13 treatments to various
areas for sound control.

Hebrew
Rehabilitation Center for the Aged
Clean
and without distraction is what Sona-Spray "fc"
offered to this small informal gathering area at the Hebrew
Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale Massachusetts. The cathedral
ceiling required some type of acoustical control, but glued
ceiling tiles would have detracted from the architectural
appeal of the space. Applied at a thickness of 1", Noise
Reduction Coefficient of .90, the space now has little to
no reverberation.

Massachusetts
State Exposition Center
With
the volume of traffic that moves through the Massachusetts
State Exposition Building at the Big "E" Fair Grounds,
lack of acoustical control can be a major distraction for
exhibitors and patrons. Barry Architects of Pittsfield Massachusetts
chose 1" Dark Gray K-13 applied over existing discolored
fiberboard. The application of K-13 provided an economical
solution to this area along with a Noise Reduction Coefficient
of .75 for reverberation control.

Mullins
Center
Flash
back! This unique flush application of 1/2" of Sona-Spray
"fc" was complete in 1993 in the concourse level
of the Mullins Center at the university of Massachusetts at
Amherst. With two layers of drywall in place, one layer was
cut out to create a panel where the Sona-Spray could be applied
flush with the balance of the ceiling. The Sona-Spray, which
did not require expansion joints, dramatically reduces the
costs from the cementitious materials that were also reviewed.

Newburyport
Town Hall
Improving
the acoustical performance without jeopardizing the historic
appeal of this town hall in Newburyport Massachusetts was
the challenge for Woodman associates. K-13 and K-13"fc"
were taped for extremely high N.R.C. ratings and the ability
to conform to the sloping ceilings. With reverberation times
over 4 seconds, the acoustical material needed to be applied
over 1.5" thick. A 1" base coat of K-13 was applied
and rolled to remove any high and low areas. K-13"fc"
was then applied at a thickness of 1/2" to supply a tight
smooth texture. The combination of materials provided an N.R.C.
of 1.05.

Pell
Chafee Performance Center
Preparation
and patience were on tap for this extremely difficult application
of special color Sona-Spray "fc". Desert Sand "fc"
was applied at 1/2" to provide an N.R.C. Rating of .65.
The panels and skylights received extensive preparation while
the perimeters of the historic plaster panels received the
acoustical treatment. When the protection was removed, the
material was hand trimmed and edged to the plaster moldings.

Museum
The
clean lines and matching color scheme in this recently renovated
structure will be the new home of Indian Motorcycle and Rolls-Royce
Museums. Located in Springfield Massachusetts, the museum
is utilizing 1/2" of Sona-Spray "fc" in special
color Desert Sand to control reverberation. Extensive surface
preparation was done to the old concrete beams and ceiling
prior to the acoustical application. Stephen Jablonski Architects
has completed Phase 1 of the renovations with additional areas
currently in design.

The
Wellfleet Wildlife Sanctuary in South Wellfleet recently underwent
total renovations which included an addition. Acoustical control
was paramount with the amount of large volume exhibit and
classroom areas with cathedral ceilings. Applied at a 1"
thickness, the application allowed for the concealment of
surface mounted wires and tracks. The application, providing
a Noise Reduction Coefficient of .90, provides visitors with
a quiet, enjoyable atmosphere.

Xavier
Academy Hall at Johnson & Wales University
Stunning
is the only way to describe this total renovation of the Xavier
Academy Hall at Johnson & Wales University in Providence
Rhode Island. With the classic architecture restored to its
original condition, modern day technology quietly and invisibly
updates the hall for today's uses. Sona-Krete applied at .5"
provides a plaster type finish and Noise Reduction Coefficients
of .65 to also bring the acoustics up to date.
